What is hernando siles estadio?

Hernando Siles Estadio, also known as Estadio Olímpico Patria, is a multi-purpose stadium located in La Paz, Bolivia. It was opened in 1930 and has a capacity of approximately 42,000 spectators. The stadium is named after Hernando Siles Reyes, a former Bolivian president who played a significant role in the construction of the stadium.

The stadium is primarily used for football matches and is the home ground of the Bolivian national football team and several local clubs including The Strongest and Bolivar. The stadium has hosted numerous international and domestic football events, including the Bolivian Primera División, Copa Libertadores, and Copa Sudamericana.

The Hernando Siles Estadio is known for its high altitude, as it is situated about 3,637 meters above sea level. This makes it the highest stadium in the world, making it a difficult venue for visiting teams to play as the lower level of oxygen can cause fatigue and shortness of breath.

Apart from football, the stadium has also hosted major events such as concerts, political rallies, and other cultural events. It underwent a renovation before the 1997 Copa América, which included rebuilding the west and east stands, expanding the stadium's capacity, replacing the grass surface with artificial turf, and installing an illumination system.
